Share a little love on Valentine’s Day
Heart shaped boxes of chocolates, fancy dinners, red roses, and greeting cards are synonymous with Valentine’s Day. And while the holiday certainly revolves around these for many of us, it can be a tough time to be alone in the hospital, especially for kids. That’s why it’s so important to share a little love on Valentine’s Day with a pediatric cancer patient.
Hospitals can be lonely on Valentine’s Day
On February 14th hospitals will be filled with children who won’t be able to trade valentines with their friends at school. And others may be at home in isolation away from friends, classmates and family members. Going through cancer treatment is lonely enough and Valentine’s Day – a day that focuses on love – can emphasize that loneliness. So put aside the conversation hearts, fancy dinners and roses and consider giving the sweetest gift we can think of! Helping kids cope with cancer!
Spread a Little Love
Below are a few ideas to open up your heart and spread a little love this Valentine’s Day:
- If you know a child coping with cancer, send them a Valentine’s greeting. There are many on-line applications and ecard websites available to create and print out a card or send electronically.
- Instead of buying flowers or chocolates for your sweetheart, show her how big your heart is by making a donation in her name to Mikey’s Way Foundation. Your gift will help provide electronics which connect kids with cancer to the outside world. And they will be able to receive holiday cards electronically!
- Children’s hospitals recognize that holidays like Valentine’s Day are tough for kids in the hospital. And many of them set-up links on their websites to help share the love by sending the children cards. Simply go to their Valentine’s Day page, select a design, and with a few key strokes and a click, your card is on its way!
